Following the previous plans by the Ministry of Interior to modify and extend the International passport. Recall, in October, Babandede said that Nigeria will begin using the new passport by December 2018. Today Tuesday, January 15, Minister of interior Dambazau Abdulrahman and Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Babandede Mohammed presented the new International Passport to President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice Yemi Osinbajo. The new passport is designed to be valid for a ten-year period.
Aside the Ten-year validity, the new passport has some more security features that makes it more durable than the old one. Moreover, has resistance to harsh weather conditions. According to the ministry, it contains polycarbonate which prevents it from damage.
In October last year, Mr Babandede, in an interview with channels Tv said the ministry is doing it’s best to ensure the passports has the necessary security features. Thus ensures Nigerians of standard International passport.
The new International passport was presented to the president and his vice at the Federal Executive Council meeting FEC. President Buhari who had earlier done biometric capturing shortly before the meeting received the brown new passport at the meeting. The meeting took place inside the Council Chamber of the presidential villa.
Is a welcome development as it will save Nigerians in diaspora the time spent going to Nigerian Embassy for renewal.
