The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University and Bauchi State University, Gadau Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU chapter Dr Babayo Adamu, Bauchi State Chairman Of ASUU Detained By DSS.
However, the Vice Chairman of the association, Dr Maina Ibrahim, totally condemned the action at a joint press conference held on Sunday in Bauchi. He alleged that Babayo was detained by the DSS operatives on Sunday when he was invited to the department’s headquarters.
According to Ibrahim Maina,“the ASUU Chairman, Babayo Adamu was invited through a Short Service Message SMS which is not a formal way of invitation.
Thus, on Friday he received a text message requesting him to report to the DSS office in Bauchi on Sunday. Besides, he went to the office with some of the executives of the association. The DSS operatives demanded other members of his entourage to leave and detained him in their office”…
“They should give us reasons for his arrest. That will give us an idea of steps to follow. If the detention is connected with the ongoing strike. It is a national strike embarked on by the Universities in the country and not a personal problem. What offence have we committed by pressing for our rights through the strike,”..??
According to Maina, the Bauchi State Chairman Of ASUU Detained By DSS is a violation of fundamental human rights and urged the DSS to give reasons behind the arrest.
However, a DSS official who refused to disclose his identity denied the allegation. He insisted that Babayo was not detained but invited to answer some questions.
