FG Decline Governors’ N22,500 Minimum Wage Proposal: Organized Labour has been demanding for Thirty thousand naira (N30000) as new minimum wage. But the federal government has declared an intention to pay twenty-four thousand naira (N24000).
In a communiqué presented at the end of the second emergency meeting of the NGF in Abuja yesterday. The governors explained that the salaried workers are made up of not more than 5% of the total working population.

The Federal government has clearly stated it was not in support of the twenty-two thousand five hundred (N22500) minimum wage proposed by the Nigeria Governors Forum. The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, made this known on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
According to the minister, the governors have not even done enough. I told them that this twenty-two thousand five hundred (N22500) was even rejected by the Federal Government
The national minimum wage is national legislation being driven by the Federal Government of Nigeria in accordance to item 34 of the Exclusive Legislative list. FG decline governors’ new wage proposal because of the above reasons. Ngige concluded.
