Parent, Kehinde Omosebi 49-year-old and Titilayo Omosebi, 47-year-old, resides in the United States, both face up to 37-years in prison as they have been charged with starving their son to death.
The boy who died was 15-year-old and another son, 11-year-old, was found alive but he was in a very critical condition.
Kehinde, the boys’ father, who claimed to be a pastor with the Cornerstone Reformation Ministries, had ordered a religious fast that lasted as long as forty (40) days. The boys had only water during the fasting which started on July 17.
However, the 15-year-old boy died on Friday in Reedsburg, while the couple was charged on Tuesday in Sauk County, Wisconsin, USA.
“The policemen had to break through locked doors to access the boys at a residence on Alexander Avenue on the west side of the city,” Beckero Timothy, Reedsburg Police Chief said. The father reported the child’s death to the police 2 days after it’s occurrence.
“It was not like the child was healthy on Thursday and then died on Friday. His death was a gradual process and his parent did nothing to stop it. That is the most disturbing thing about this.”
The 11-year-old boy had to be aided to walk out of the residence. He held onto a Bible and an envelope, which, contained pamphlets about death, which were distributed to the officers when they arrived at the resident.
The surviving kid has been taken to the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, for protective care attention.
The parent told the Police that it was not the first time the family would be embarking in a religious fast, saying that this was the longest and they were awaiting “blessing from God”. Both even had no remose for starving their son to death.
